Happy Birthday, Sherlock Holmes!
There will always be a place in my heart for Sherlock Holmes, in all his incarnations. When I was eleven, I first read “The Speckled Band,” and shortly thereafter, I spent the summer devouring every single original Conan Doyle story… and tracking down and devouring every single other story/article/pastiche/character study/movie/television series about Holmes that had ever been made. (Or at least, all the ones that could be found within a twenty mile radius of the Detroit metropolitan area.)
All these years later, I’m still fascinated by him. He’s one of the greatest men who never lived. ;-)
I completely agree with what’s written above me.
Sherlock Holmes will forever live in my mind and in my heart. Ever since I was small, he and John have been my heroes. It might be odd for a child to hold someone like Sherlock Holmes in such high estimate, but I wanted to be independent and okay on my own. I wanted to be intelligent and take everything into consideration. Although, I’ve fallen short in some aspects, I still hold Mister Holmes in high regard.
I’ve always been proud to have a birthday close to Sherlock’s. Happy birthday to the best character in the history of written word.
I love Sherlock Holmes so much. Many long airplane flights as a kid were spent reading and re-reading The Hound of The Baskervilles, and I remember crying the first time I read The Final Problem. I vehemently disagree with my mom on the (non-canon) Mary Russell books, though. She loves them, I think she’s a bigger Mary Sue than Bella Swan. The books are all about Watson pretty much vanishing and Sherlock suddenly falling in love with a female detective that’s ten times smarter than he is out-of-nowhere. Yech.
I love the first Sherlock Holmes movie, need to see the second, and need to see more BBC Sherlock- I’ve only seen the first two episodes of Season 1.
And I love how Basil of Baker Street is included on here!
